Dear Angling Enthusiasts,

It’s been six years since the dawn of the World Sailfish Championship and Sailfish magazine and we’re here to celebrate in style. Since its conception on a cocktail napkin by publisher Chris King and Captain Mike Weinhofer, the World Sailfish Championship has evolved into one of the most prestigious sailfish tournaments in the world. Crowning a World Champion has never been so much fun.

This year we celebrate six years of successful tournaments with our sponsors, anglers, staff, volunteers, spectators, and annual attendees who help make this tournament the best there is.

With stories, interviews, and photographs from tournaments past and present, along with a tournament recap section, we cover it all. In this issue we focus on destinations, with big game fishing down under in exotic and picturesque New Zealand, read where to go and find unspoiled fisheries in Fly Fishing and if you are spending time in Key West, look no further than our profile on the resort properties of The Westin Key West Resort and Marina and Sunset Key Guest Cottages.

Our secondary focus this issue is on the electronics we all use and have come to depend on to make our fishing days more productive and our tournament time more lucrative. Capt. Gary Joyce explores rigging your decks for onboard filming as well as modern crew communication devices; Capt. Jim Sharpe explains different weather patterns and techniques that compliment the weather while hunting sails. Ray Goodrich gives us a behind the scenes look at what it takes to not only get TV quality footage, but craft a story line to keep even hard-core fishing enthusiasts glued to the set.

Once again, it has been a pleasure being able to bring you informative, up-to-date recaps of the sailfish tournaments in the southeast, interesting and informative stories detailing the sport of billfishing around the region and the globe, and all the stories in-between. We are dedicated to continue bringing you all the latest sailfish information for years to come.

Until then—good tides and tight lines!
